5 Ways to Keep your Heart Steady & Joyful in This Pandemic.

Hello there! How are you doing? I would really like to know (you can leave a comment to let me know) Me? I’m fine. I’ve been catching up on enjoying the company of my family and books and of course movies. Lol. The crisis is hard to ignore though. One can’t just pretend that life as we know it is changing and uncertainty looms over the planet like a dark cloak. I realise that although a lot of people might seem okay outwardly on their WhatsApp status and Instagram lives and Zoom hangouts, they might also be fighting inner battles of worry and fear and uncertainty. And those feelings are well warranted but then again, there is comfort in knowing it doesn’t have to be that way. You don’t have to be thrown into a state of entropy because the world is. You can maintain tranquility and peace and I’m here to help with that. I hope that these five tips I’m about to share with you prove helpful to you as you navigate the state of your heart in these times.

Laugh a lot. You can start by watching a comedy.

Laughter is good for you. I usually get my laugh fix from conversations with my family. So if you’re with your family, engage them. Don’t isolate yourself. It will not help. Watch skits, watch comedies. Laugh. Laugh. Laugh some more. Laughter is therapeutic and fun. Honestly there’s no way to explain all the ways that laughter makes life better but I’m sure you know too that when you laugh whatever problems you might be facing fades away into the background and you forget all you cares. It is well worth it, and most of the time laughter is free. So what’s stopping you? Have a laugh today!

Listen to good edifying music.

Music really matters in times like this because music sets the tone for an act/scene (like in a movie, like in your life), or a space. Some people, they are already feeling lonely and gloomy o, they will now be listening to sad music on top of that. I have just one question for you… WHY??!!!?? Why are you doing that to yourself? I know sometimes it can be really hard because you just want to go with something that fits your mood but listen, you have to take responsibility and give your soul what it needs, not what it wants. What your heart and soul needs is a reminder that God is still in control, a reminder of who you are in Christ and the easiest medium to get that message across (I speak from experience) is through music. I am telling you the truth. I’m not saying you should trash all your groovy songs but see, if you are losing you mind, it is not Wizkid or Asa or Teni or Adele that will save you o. It is Christ Jesus, our Lord and saviour. Listen to Jesus music. Enough said.

Get saturated. Read and chew on the word.

Speaking of Jesus, you might want to get on your bible too. Psalm 119 verse 105, very popular scripture says, Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. That is to say when I cannot see, when I am lost, when I am inside a pandemic, Oluwa, You are my light. You are my source of hope and direction. Some of you really need to get on your bible and just read. Some of you, you’ve never finished one book of the bible before. Why won’t you be afraid? No, tell me now? When you don’t know how the Isrealites possessed the promise land, how Joseph became prime minister, how David fought a bear and (let me shock you) a lion too? Why won’t you be scared? When you don’t know how Esther went to see the king and put her life in danger? Or how Ruth found favour in a land that was not hers? Or how Saul became Paul, how Lazarus came forth, how Jesus rose? Do you catch my drift? How will you have faith if you don’t prioritize the word? There’s absolutely no how. But there’s hope. Repeat after me, I am a child of God and the word of God is my priority, today and forever more. I pray that as you have said it, so shall it be in Jesus name. Amen!

Speaking of chewing, eat good food too.

We’ve talked about spiritual food now we need to talk about physical food. I’m hoping it’s not just me but uhm good food makes me happy o. You can hardly think any heavy thoughts when you going down on a delicious meal. Very few things in this world can be compared to moi moi and garri, or is it egusi and pounded yam or is it jollof and goat meat? I need to stop talking about food because I don’t want my stomach to start talking to me. You might be worried about weight gain but don’t be. The fact that you’re eating good doesn’t mean you should eat excess. Quality over quantity. Keep that in mind. I mean, this particular point might not be for everyone but I noticed I’m usually in a good mood/state after a good meal so who knows? That might be a revelation to someone reading this.

Free yourself from pressures, expectations and worries about tomorrow.

Look, everyone has an opinion on how we should all spend this time, but at the end of the day that’s all they are, opinions. Free yourself because you’ve been made free already. Galatians 5 verse 1 in the Message translation says Christ has set us free to live a free life. So take your stand! Never again let anyone put a harness of slavery on you. Capiche? In other words, don’t let anyone put pressure on you. Don’t feel pressured to be productive. Don’t feel pressured to take online courses. Don’t feel pressured to checked on everybody. Don’t feel pressured to be bored. Don’t feel pressured to miss going out if actually you don’t miss it. Don’t feel pressured to do what everyone is doing. Why? You are a free person that’s why. You can do as you please. Be led by the spirit.

Don’t carry the ideas and expectations of the world on your shoulders. We are all unique and are at different stages of life. Our needs are not the same and these times proffer unique challenges to us all. Let’s not be pressured and let’s not be the pressure. God wants you to take one day at a time. He doesn’t want you so full of cares and worries that you can’t even enjoy the present day. You can’t even see what’s under your nose because you’re so preoccupied by the future. If there’s anything this pandemic has shown us all, it’s that no one really knows or can plan the future. We are all the same. We are all just human beings trying to find our way, so don’t let anyone rub you of your peace of mind. Now is not the time to follow the news religiously. YOU DONT NEED THAT! I’ve given you other things you can do with your time above. Do that instead. God bless you as you do so. I leave you with this word from Jesus, your faithful friend;

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.
John 14:27 ESV

I hope this post has been of help to you.

Stay safe and stay peaceful. Much love.

Spread the love
