Lemme just start this thing off by saying,
That textbook is…those textbooks are heavy! In other words, the workload for medical students is a lot. And if you’re just starting out, the whole thing might just look daunting! Like…”is it me that will finish this thing?😄…more than once?🤣🤣🤣🤣. I laugh!”
I think that’s when the reality of what we’ve entered really hits some people. And people handle this kind of “in-your-face” reality-check very differently, some very badly.
So How Do You Deal With The Workload Issue?
Well, first of all, DON’T CONCLUDE YOU CAN’T DO IT! That’s just counterproductive. No matter how good you actually are, if you conclude that you can’t do something then you won’t🤷🏾♂…simple!
For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he
Proverbs 23 v 7A
Fun Fact – there are over a hundred thousand Doctors in the world right now and if I were a betting man, I’ld wager that at least a quarter of them were not as smart as you aka they were dumber than you are now. So my first point is, if they could do it, YOU CAN DO IT!
Alright Next Point! So, this “workload issue” of a thing kinda stems from a place of fear and anxiety, you know?
- “How am I gonna complete all of this?”
- “How will I be able to remember all these names?”
- “When did they say we are doing the MB sef?😭”.
But I learnt something about fear and peace some months ago.
There are two main things that give peace; having a connection with God(we’ll talk about that later) and BEING A MANAGER!
Don’t be the person that wastes the things God has given you. Everyone has something God has given them, personally. MANAGE IT!
When God made Adam and Eve, He essentially gave them the job of “Managers”. To take care of everything He created. Same thing with us now.
You’re going to have to learn how to manage time, resources, people etc. It’s not enough that you have these things;
- You just naturally wake up a few hrs earlier than most
- You just have some materials that summaries 150 page chapters
- You just know so many senior friends with so many different perspectives on how to clear med school…
It’s not enough to just have it! You gotta milk it bro! Otherwise you’ll just waste what’s supposed to give you peace and rest!
So the last point is GOD😌…I know…I know Don’t roll your eyes yet, let’s be real. There’s no way you haven’t heard 50 – 90% of all I said up there before. That’s why FR FR, GOD is the secret sauce to this whole thing.
Those are just life principles that work if you use them properly but they always come at a cost. Some, more than others but everything has a cost.
Here at Medify, we want you to be #doctorandhappy, to be a #strudwithstuff, to be #brainyandballing…ok, I’ll stop now😅. That only happens with God. That only happens when you have a real relationship through Jesus Christ with the One who made you…the One who made medicine…the One who made books!
Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.
Proverbs 3 v 5 & 6
Personally, I actually seen the bad side of not letting God lead me through my Academics early😫.
When I first started out with all the crazy books and classes and practicals, I got a lot of advice about how to tackle this workload issue. I felt God really pull me towards one of them (side note- not every advice is for you, that why you need the Holy Spirit) and I started using it…kinda…not really😅. Eventually, I completely forgot about it and just kept going through the motions of Med School and since I was passing I didn’t bother with anything extra.
Until I failed the first time😨 and then failed again😰😰.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhh. Inside Life!!!😫😫😫
It made me start scrambling for the instruction I got then. Lol. I took it seriously this time ooh…Geezzz
And after consistently using it, my workload…lol…was not an issue! I was always ready for incourses! It was never too much to cover or I was too busy/too tired. God’s way was my personal cheat code.
And you know that’s the sweetest kind of win, the one you didn’t even fight for!😎
So, I’m hearing someone saying…”ok, Dee…I hear you. Workload? SETTLED! But the thing with me is I just can’t seem to focus!”
I got bro. The Focus Issue…coming right up!
