#2 Meditations on God’s love: Rest in His love

For all who have entered into God’s rest have rested from their labors, just as God did after creating the world. Hebrews 4:10 NLT

Now that we are certain of his extraordinary love, what exactly does it mean for us? What are we to do seeing that the father loves us so? We rest, that’s what we do. We are no longer trying to get God to do things for us, we are no longer trying to buy his love and attention, his gaze is already fixed on us. Goodness and mercy are already hunting us down. Now that Jesus has done it all for us on the cross of calvary, he has bought the father’s love and goodwill for us, we can rest and enjoy all that is ours. Because of the sacrifice of Jesus, we can come boldly and receive mercy in time of need. Because of him, we can expect the best from our heavenly father. We can sleep soundly at night because we know he keeps watch over us and does not sleep or slumber. We can go our way without fear because we know we have angels standing guard. We have confidence because we know if he can give us his son, what can he possibly withhold? While the world prides itself on blood and sweat and hustle, we look to the one who sweated blood for us. Through his suffering, we reign. Through his pain, we experience joy.

What will resting in His love look like for you today? Will it mean you will be more assured about your future? Will it mean you will stop worrying about your finances and simply ask for wisdom? Will it mean you will receive healing for your body? Will it mean you will ask for more? Will it mean you will tell someone about Jesus’ love today? Will it mean you will be more compassionate and patient with your fellow men? The bible says that we love because he first loved us (1John 4vs19). Let his love compel you to good works.

Peter speaks to our troubled hearts when he says cast your cares on him for he cares for you (1Peter 5vs7). The Lord wants you to rest in Him, just as he rested on the 7th day after creating the universe. In this case, God has done all the work for you to live abundantly. It is finished. Now is the time to rest and recieve. If there is anything at all you should be passionately steadfast about, it shouldnt be gaining his approval, it should be receiving everything Jesus gaining his approval for you, already got you. It like having a grant in the bank that your great grandfather left for you and crying over the money for rent. That can only happen because such a person doesn’t know what they have. If he knows, he won’t sit and cry and be depressed or be discouraged. Oh no! Of course not! When the landlord comes for rent, he would simply pay a visit to the bank. Life is easy, when you have a supply. And guess what? You do!

So dear friend, please relax. You have all that you need already. Feel free to cash your cheques anytime you need help. Doesn’t that mean you are using God? Is the question someone is asking. Well here is my answer; it would be such a shame if you don’t use all that Jesus had to die for. And isn’t that even some pride on your side? Haha. Let’s hang it there today with this memory verse that everybody should learn including OmoobaJesu.

But Christ has rescued us from the curse pronounced by the law. When he was hung on the cross, he took upon himself the curse for our wrongdoing. For it is written in the Scriptures, “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.”

Galatians 3:13
